Mayo Dinner Rolls.
Three ingredients and 12 minutes in the oven. Voila!
Wow, what a recipe! I am pleasantly shocked! Super fast and super easy! I found the recipe in the cookbook called “Calling All Cooks Two” published back in 1988 by the Telephone Pioneers of America (Alabama Chapter No. 34).
Three ingredients only – mayo, self-rising flour and milk! The result is these wonderful dinner rolls that look like fluffy muffins but taste like great dinner rolls. I highly recommend this recipe for those who do not have time to mess with the yeast dough! Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed!
If you feel adventurous and have time to work in the kitchen, try these old-fashioned Feather Dinner Rolls from 1930s.
Steps
1 Done | Preheat the oven up to 425F. Grease the muffin pan with a cooking spray. |
2 Done | In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, milk and self-rising flour. |
3 Done | Spoon the batter into the muffin pan, about ¾ full. Bake for 12 minutes until golden brown. |

I can’t find where you posted the ingredient amounts. How much mayo, flour and milk?
Hi Karla,
The ingredient list is right under main picture in the recipe, under the “Share/Like” buttons. The Ingredients tab is expandable (click in the little “+” sign on the right from “Ingredients”). Just in case you still can’t see it, to make 6 rolls you will need 1 cup self-rising flour, 3 Tbs regular Mayo and 1/2 cup milk. Let me know if you have more questions! I hope you enjoy these yummy dinner rolls! 😊
Can I use regular flour with added baking soda and salt? How much?
Hi Arlinda,
I don’t see why regular flour cannot be used instead of self-rising one. To make your own self-rising flour, whisk together 1.5 tsp of baking powder and ¼ tsp of salt. The trick is to evenly distribute baking powder and salt. As far as baking soda goes, you can definitely experiment and let us know how it went! Baking soda is a great leavening agent. I have never tried to make these rolls with anything but self-rising flour (and White Lily is my choice flour for this recipe).
Good luck! I bet it’s gonna be delicious!
Ana
Thanks. I could not find the ingredients list either.
What if I put a splash of garlic salt and parm?
Tim,
Thanks for this awesome idea! I would suggest buttering the baked rolls’ tops and sprinkling them with garlic salt and parmesan. These rolls bake at 425F, so if you sprinkle them before you put them in the oven, the seasoning and cheese will burn, I am afraid. Another way to add a nice touch is adding ½ tsp garlic powder into the batter. You could also experiment and add ¼ cup grated parmesan or shredded cheddar in the batter.
Happy Cooking!
Ana
Can the dough be baked in a bread pan?
Colleen, I have never tried baking this dough in a bread pan, but I would imagine that it was possible with some temperature and time adjustments. If you do bake it in a bread pan, please let us know if you succeeded! Thank you! 🙂
I tried adding garlic salt and grated cheddar to the batter and the rolls were delicious!
These are lovely…. easy and yummy…
Bev, thank you! They really are wonderful!
